USB Media Explorer (UME), previously known as Nexus Media Importer, is a versatile tool that allows you to conveniently view photos (Jpeg and Raw), stream videos, listen to music, and browse documents from USB storage devices and cameras. With specialized screens for different types of media and file management capabilities, it offers a comprehensive solution for your media needs.
One of the standout features of UME is the ability to copy files to and from USB devices, eliminating the need for cumbersome importing processes. Moreover, it enables you to view photos and videos in their full-size glory without the need for importing them.
UME provides extensive support for various devices, including flash/pen drives, card readers, hard drives, cameras, other Android devices, MTP/UMS audio players, and some DVD drives. However, please note that hard drives require significant power and may need an external power source such as a powered USB hub.
To connect most devices, you will need a microUSB OTG cable or a USB C to USB adapter. These accessories are readily available from major retail websites.
It's worth mentioning that UME supports most video and audio formats natively supported by Android. However, for formats like AVI, Dolby, DTS, and WMV which are not natively supported, you may require a third-party media player like VLC.
Please be aware that UME only supports cameras with storage capabilities. Live image devices such as endoscopes and webcams are not compatible.
If you wish to access another Android device through UME, you will need to put the target device in MTP/File Transfer Mode.
It is important to note that UME does not support devices using proprietary protocols (like most "i" devices) and commercial DVDs. Additionally, compatibility with DVD drives depends on whether they support AV Connect mode or a similar feature, so please consult your DVD drive manual for details.
If you encounter any issues while using UME, you can reach out to the developer, "Homesoft," by tapping on their contact information in the About section of the app. While they do read and respond to reviews, resolving issues can be challenging due to the limitations of one-way communication. For more effective support, it is recommended to include details such as the Android device you are using, the USB device in question, and a clear description of the problem when contacting support.
